The Art Neon guide

What to Check Before Ordering a Custom Neon Sign Online

Use this practical Canadian buying checklist to compare custom neon sign quality, design proofs, pricing, installation, warranty and delivery terms.

A custom neon sign is made specifically for your wording, logo, size and installation. That makes the design proof and order specifications more important than a product photo alone. Before paying, you should know exactly what will be produced, what is included and what happens if the delivered sign does not match the approved order.

This checklist is designed for Canadian homes, businesses and event customers comparing custom LED neon signs online.

1. Confirm who is operating the store

Look for a clear company name, contact details, policies and a reliable way to reach customer support. A seller should explain where support is managed without implying that every product is manufactured locally when production may involve specialized partners in other locations.

The Art Neon Canada is operated by Enseignes The Art Neon Inc. in Montréal, Québec. Current contact information is available on the contact page.

2. Require a clear design proof

The proof should show the exact spelling, line breaks, font or logo, colours, backing shape and overall dimensions. Review it at normal size and zoom in on small joins, punctuation and closely spaced letters.

  • Check every letter and number.
  • Confirm whether dimensions include the acrylic backing.
  • Make sure the colour layout matches the approved concept.
  • Verify cable exit points and separate sections when relevant.
  • Request changes before production begins.

For complex artwork, use a vector file when possible. The logo quote and mockup form lets you send the original design and project details for review.

3. Choose the size for the actual space

Do not select a width based only on a product image. Measure the usable wall, backdrop or window area and consider how far away the sign will usually be viewed. Long wording may need more width than a short name, even when both use the same nominal font size.

Take a straight-on photo and include one reliable measurement. This makes it easier to evaluate scale before ordering.

4. Understand the sign construction

Specification What to confirm
Lighting type Flexible LED neon rather than fragile traditional glass tubing, if LED neon is what you intend to buy.
Backing Clear, coloured, cut-to-shape or another agreed acrylic style.
Power A compatible low-voltage power supply prepared for Canadian outlets.
Controls Whether a dimmer or remote is included or optional for the selected configuration.
Mounting Predrilled holes, supplied hardware and any additional fasteners required for your wall.
Outdoor protection Weather-resistant construction selected before production when the sign will face moisture or weather.

5. Be precise about indoor or outdoor use

An indoor sign should not be installed where it can be exposed to rain, snow, condensation or prolonged moisture. If the location is outdoors or semi-exposed, state that before the quote is finalized.

Outdoor-rated construction protects applicable sign components, but the power supply, plugs and electrical connections may require separate weather protection. Large commercial, hardwired or permanent outdoor work should be reviewed by a qualified installer and must follow applicable property, electrical and municipal requirements.

6. Compare the complete price

Ask whether the price includes the sign, backing, power supply, mounting hardware, standard shipping and design proof. Applicable Canadian taxes may depend on the province or territory and should be visible at checkout.

For text, the online designer shows the current price based on selected options. Logos and complex artwork should have a written quote that identifies the approved configuration.

7. Separate production time from delivery time

Production begins after the design and payment requirements are complete. Delivery begins after the sign has passed quality control and is handed to the carrier. Ask for both estimates separately, especially for a wedding, opening or campaign with a fixed date.

Allow a buffer for design revisions, outdoor production, carrier delays and installation planning. Review the current shipping policy rather than relying on an old advertisement or social post.

8. Read the custom-product return terms

Personalized 12V signs are produced according to the customer’s approved specifications and are generally not eligible for a change-of-mind return or exchange. That makes the proof approval especially important. This does not remove the available remedies for an eligible defect, damage or material difference from the approved order.

Read the current return policy before purchasing and keep the proof, order confirmation and correspondence.

9. Check warranty coverage

Understand the warranty term, covered defects, exclusions and claim procedure. Damage from improper installation, misuse, modifications or unauthorized repairs may be excluded. Keep your proof of purchase and follow the care instructions.

The Art Neon’s current two-year warranty covers eligible defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and maintenance.

10. Plan installation before the box arrives

Identify the wall material, mounting height, nearby outlet and cable route. Standard mounting hardware may not be suitable for brick, concrete, tile, metal framing or every drywall condition. Use fasteners rated for the surface and sign weight.

  • Indoor or outdoor use stated.
